This was a quality instrument and after my short time with the MIM Tele I felt good again about owing an American made guitar. I was satisfied with this Tele for a number of years and used it in my first Seattle band. I did experience an issue the first winter I had it with the finish near some of the frets chipping/flaking off. I had this fixed under warranty at Stephen’s Strings. In retrospect I probably should have just let it be. It would have added a little character.
Several years later after playing dozens and dozens of Telecasters from all eras I came to realize that I am not a huge fan of this era of the American Standard series. They were quality guitars but I found them a little too refined for my tastes. I found that I much prefer the 7.25 fretboard radius. I also felt the bridge they used on those Standards made for a pretty generic sounding guitar. I could never get my Standard to sound like I thought a Tele should sound. I eventually replaced this with a 1990 52 Reissue and have been happy with my Tele sound since.
