The dude who ran sound in my band special ordered this from Watermelon Sugar Music in Saginaw, MI in 1978. He kept bugging me to buy it from him. I don’t think he needed the money. He was just really into the idea of me owning it for some reason. I was pretty happy with my Gibson (The Paul) but he kept on me. The other guitar player in the band had a really sweet Ibanez Explorer that may have influenced my decision to buy the Iceman.
I sold my Gibson to our light person and bought the sound guy’s Iceman. Talk about keeping things in the family. The Iceman was a great guitar and very well made but It really wasn’t my thing. I kept trying to get the other guitar player to trade me for his Explorer but no joy.
I played it for a year or year and a half at the tail end of my cover band career. This guitar, like the ST-55, had great attention to detail like a 50/50 bone/brass nut and super intricate quality tuners. Plus those knobs with the rubber rings around them!
